Dear Honorable Minister,
We are writing in regards to the joint statement between foreign ministers released on July 21st, 2025, and the call to immediately end the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Thank you for issuing the joint statement. This comes at a time when both starvation, and now the danger of dehydration from the destruction of water desalination in Gaza, demand immediate action.
However, we must express concerns with the government’s position, and hope that Canada can participate in concrete actions to ensure desperate humanitarian needs are met in the region. Areas of concern include:
This Liberal government’s confusing position between public statements that explicitly support Israel’s recent attacks on neighboring countries, versus the call to end ongoing IDF violence in Gaza. We demand clarity on our government’s position to demand a complete ceasefire in the region.
The federal government’s continued support of weaponry and parts built in Canada for use by the Israel Defence Forces must end. With over 50,000 children killed in the ongoing genocide, and despite Canada’s calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, allowing sale of weaponary means Canada is providing forms of support for ongoing war crimes perpetrated by the IDF.
Finally, the delivery of humanitarian aid by IDF and American groups must end. We as a nation must do more than issuing joint statements demanding immediate action, we must be a part of immediate action to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid including food, and now the desperate need for water following the IDF’s destruction of desalination plants in Gaza.
Canada must do more to uphold its obligations to the Palestinian people as outlined by the UN, the International Court of Justice, and the Geneva Convention.
Thank you for continuing to speak out for immediate aid to Gaza and for an immediate ceasefire. We need decisive diplomatic action now to save the lives of Gazans and aid workers.
